At the heart of our commitment to holistic care at ARC lies a rigorous protocol ensuring the health and well-being of every individual admitted to our residential centers, outpatient facilities, and psychiatric units. Our proactive approach involves thorough testing for prevalent communicable diseases and infections, allowing us to offer prompt medical attention and support. ARC’s team of qualified medical professionals screens for various diseases, including HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, Mycoplasma genitalium, and trichomonas.
Those testing positive receive immediate treatment in accordance with CDC best practices, and our Infection Prevention & Control Department oversees the entire process, from diagnosis to referrals for specialized care. For many individuals entering our centers, it may be their first encounter with healthcare beyond the scope of addiction treatment. The lack of prior medical attention means that some are unaware of active infections or the potential consequences of neglecting their health. Communicable diseases left untreated can have severe long-term effects, such as the progression of HIV to AIDS, chronic hepatitis leading to liver damage, and irreversible complications from untreated syphilis.
Recognizing the importance of addressing these issues, we actively educate our clients about the long-term repercussions of untreated infectious diseases. By instilling awareness, our goal is to empower individuals to seek medical follow-up care, breaking the cycle of neglect. Our multifaceted approach at ARC not only addresses substance abuse but also tackles the significant medical issues that often accompany it. Through early detection, treatment, and education, we strive to create a healthier future for our clients and contribute to a safer, more well-informed community.
