‘It’s not a job. It’s a career’: ARC helps clients obtain automotive certification

This week WYMT Mountain News highlighted Second Chance Auto in Lawrence County. The program is under the umbrella of Addiction Recovery Care’s (ARC) crisis to career model. The unique experience gives those in recovery the opportunity to earn their student Automotive Service Excellence Certification while working in a high-functioning repair shop. 

After completing their certification, students can keep their new career moving forward by working towards their professional certification just two years later. 

“It’s not a job. It’s a career,” Sales and Service Manager Jon Storms told WYMT. “It’s not ‘crisis to job’; it’s ‘crisis to career.’ And it’s something that a lot of the students have always wanted to do, and it’s a way for them to support their families.”

ARC providing hope for those seeking recovery

LEX-18’s Conroy Delouche also joined ARC this week, highlighting the recovery movement sweeping across Kentucky one bed at a time. The segment was filmed as part of LEX-18’s ‘The Rebound Kentucky’ series. 

Senior Vice President of Administration Matt Brown spoke to Delouche about ARC’s 756-bed facility at Crown Recovery Center, former home of St. Catherine College in Springfield. Brown also shared ARC’s vision of adding more beds with the former Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital’s potential purchase in Greenup County. The hope is it doesn’t just give people more opportunities in recovery but also more jobs for a region hit hard by the economic downturn. 

“Knowing that this project would increase access to treatment for people and these two things is very personal to me,” said Brown.

ARC remains in early negotiations with the current owners of the former Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
